Calling all future 5th grade families… it is time to start planning for next year! If you are interested in being on the 5th grade activities/celebrations committee, please email Jodi Haggen at [email protected], subject line 2016/2017 5th graders. Schools Serve Mariner Hot Dog on April 15. To celebrate opening day for the Seattle Mariners, Bellingham Public Schools is serving the official Mariner hot dog on Friday, April 15 for lunch in our school cafeterias. This all-beef frank is the same hot dog served at Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners baseball team. Students who eat a school lunch on April 15 will automatically be entered to win four tickets to see the Mariners play in Seattle during the 2016 season. The raffle winner will be announced on April 22. For more information, please contact Food Services at 676-6504.

Community Opportunities
Free Swim Lessons for All First Graders in Whatcom County
The YMCA of Whatcom County is offering free swim classes to all first graders during spring break: April 4 to 8. Registration is required and now open for Safety Around Water, which teaches water safety and basic swimming skills that help reduce the risk of drowning and build confidence in and around water. There are 30-minute slots open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., April 4 to 8. Lessons will be given at the Bellingham YMCA Program Center at 1256 N. State Street. For more information, call 733-8630. Please note that the YMCA has scholarship for all students (not just first graders) who need introduction to water and/or swim lessons. Phillips 66 of Ferndale has given a grant to provide this program.

• Box Tops: Send to school in an envelope or bag labeled with your child’s name and teacher.
• It is important that your child(ren)  is(are) at school on time, every day. Playground supervision and breakfast begin at 8:00 a.m. Students are expected to arrive prior to the bell at 8:25.
