9/7/16 Update from Silver Beach

Silver Beach News for 9.7.16

It’s hard to believe we are already 10 days into our school year! I spend the majority of my day on the playground, in the lunchroom and visiting classrooms.  We have the BEST kids ever! Mr. Gilmore and I had lunch with our new students this week (2nd-5th grade) and were thrilled to hear that friends have been made and that Silver Beach is a fun place to learn. If you ever have social or academic questions/ concerns regarding your child, please let us know.

The September Newsletter (linked here) is filled with valuable information. If you would like to receive a paper copy, please let the office know. There are several important events coming in the next couple weeks. Friday is our first PTO Food Truck Dinner & Ice Cream Social. Come meet your new PTO Board, learn about volunteering at Silver Beach (computers will be available for online volunteer registration), upcoming events, and meet other families in our school. Our one, BIG fundraiser, the Jog-a-thon, takes place on September 23rd and sponsor packets will come home with students on Friday!

From the District: Volunteer Application Now Online
We’re asking all volunteers, including parents, guardians and grandparents who plan to volunteer in classrooms and on field trips, to please take a few moments to complete our new online volunteer application. You can find the application on our website: bellinghamschools.org (go to about, then volunteer program), or log in directly at bellinghamschoolsvolunteers.hrmplus.net.

This application must be filed and approved prior to your shift or event, whether you are a regular volunteer or occasional helper or chaperon. If you require assistance, please call 647-6848 or email[email protected]  Thank you for your time and commitment to your/our students this year!

After School Enrichment:
After School enrichment classes start next week, and enrollment is low for some programs.  If your child is interested in these classes, please signup this week!  Some classes could be cancelled if minimum class sizes are not met.  To sign up and get more information, go to the PTO website at:  http://silverbeachelementarypto.digitalpto.com/enrichment/after-school-programs-asp/ .
After school classes offered are:
MONDAYS – Art K-2; Tennis K-5; Theatre K-1
TUESDAYS – Lego Robotics 2-4; Karate 1-5; Trailblazers 2-5
WEDNESDAYS – Improv 4-5; Guitar 3-5; Neighborhood Nature 1-5
THURSDAY – Art 3-5; Girls on the Run 3-5; Math Club 4-5

Our Lost and Found is getting full!  Please label outerwear with your child’s name so that if something is left on the playground we can get it back to the rightful owner.

We ask for your patience and cooperation with our drop off/pick up process.  We encourage families to drop students off between 8:00-8:15 to ease the congestion. Before 8:30 am and after 2:30 please do not park between the playground and the school. This area needs to be clear for our drop off/pick up line. Once cars enter the parking lot please pull all the way forward before dropping off or picking up your child. DO NOT STOP and DROP anywhere but in the lane in front of the school.
All numbered parking spots are reserved for staff members.  Please do NOT drop off or park in the annex alley.

Due to allergy concerns, food safety, and District Policy prohibiting homemade food, our Parent Advisory Council voted unanimously in spring of 2013 to eliminate birthday treats.  We encourage parents to celebrate their child’s birthday at school with a birthday book. This book can be donated to the classroom or school library. A label will be placed on the inside of the cover to commemorate your child’s special day.
