10/12/16 Update from Silver Beach

Silver Beach News for 10.12.16

Dear Families,
We are in the process of hiring for our first round of Student Leadership Jobs. Ask your child(ren) to share with you what jobs are available (1st-5th).  These opportunities will increase as the year progresses and all students are encouraged to fill out an application and serve on a ‘Leaders In Action’ team. As a staff, we are midway through our training of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. This translates into the classroom through the 7 Habits of Happy Kids 7 Habits Tree.jpg .  We are currently focusing on teaching Habit 1: Be Proactive- doing the right thing even when no one is looking and Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind- have a plan.

Begin with the End in Mind means to think about how you would like something to turn out before you get started.  As a family, you can talk about how planning ahead- whether it be with money, in school, or in life always leads to good things including being better positioned to help others.  Here are some activities students can do at home:
1. Lay out your clothes for tomorrow before going to bed.
2. Write down a goal you want to accomplish then make a list of specific steps to accomplish this goal.
3. Think about something you want to buy then make a plan for saving the money.
4. Talk about what you want to do when you grow up.
5. Celebrate accomplishments.

There is a great book called, 7 Habits for Happy Kids, and also a book collection that contains one storybook for each of The 7 Habits.  Our Parent Advisory Council suggested we do a bulk order of these books.  If you are interested in purchasing a copy, an order form is Book Order PTO.docx . Order forms are due back by 10/21 and please make checks payable to SBEA.

Have a great week!
Nicole
