12/15/2016 Update from Silver Beach

Silver Beach News for 12.15.16

Dear Families,
I wish you a very merry winter break!  This week is one of my favorites of the year watching our student leaders step up and run such a successful food drive-972 pounds of food was delivered to the Food Bank this afternoon. Pictures and video of the delivery are on our Silver Beach Facebook page, such a great experience for our kids.  Here is a video of the gifts filling my office (literally) that were purchased by our Family Support Network and will be giving 8 families and 21 children an incredible Christmas.  Thank you for being such a caring community that reaches out to help others.
Happy Holidays!
Nicole

9:15 tomorrow morning is our traditional Winter Sing-Along (teaser video) and you are welcome to join us.  I will attach the Sing -Along seating.pub so that you can sit (or stand) across from your child’s grade level for the best view.

Promise Kindergarten at Bellingham Public Schools | 2016-17A One Schoolhouse Approach to Early Childhood Education
We invest in a strong early childhood (prenatal through third grade) education program because of its powerful long-term returns for our students and community.  Promise K, our full-day early entrance kindergarten program, helps to ensure that all children have the opportunity to begin kindergarten ready to learn.   We are committed to a coherent, cohesive P-3 approach to educating our youngest students and therefore seek to open Promise K classrooms in the schools where the majority of those students will be continuing their elementary education.  Every year, each of our 14 elementary schools should be prepared to welcome a Promise K class.

Next week, Whole Foods Market in Bellingham will donate 5% of all store sales to the Bellingham Public Schools Foundation for three days, Wednesday, Dec. 14 through Friday, Dec. 16. This is an incredible display of generosity, generating important funds that benefit all of our schools.  To participate, simply shop at or eat in the Lakeway store anytime on those days, buying general grocery items or special holiday needs while supporting our students. Please share with your family members, friends and co-workers. We look forward to seeing you there!
