3/8/2017 Update from Silver Beach

Silver Beach News for 3.8.17

Dear Families,
Yesterday, before school, we hosted the Bellingham School Board, Dr. Baker, and the Executive Team. The presentation was 100% planned, prepped, and orchestrated by our Junior Lighthouse Team.  Our kids did an exceptional job and felt like rockstars!  Here are links to their presentation PowerPoint  one highlighting their planning  and the video (thanks Mrs. Cleary!). As a staff, our goal is to extend similar leadership opportunies to all our kids.

Have a wonderful week!
Nicole

Spring Garden Lessons set to launch with Common Threads
Common Threads Food Educators enjoyed cooking in the classroom this winter with students as we collectively prepared and tasted kale salad, beet hummus, applesauce, and butternut squash noodles “squoodles”. As we transition back outside, spring garden lessons at Silver Beach will start on March 14th and run through June 12th. Did you know that Common Threads offers spring break and summer camps for kids?  For more information and registration, check out www.commonthreadsfarm.org.

Please mark your calendars for Dirt Fest on Monday 4/17 at Sunnyland Elementary School from 3:00-5:30pm. And, if you are interested in volunteering to support the Silver Beach garden education program,  please talk to your Food Educator, Samantha ([email protected]), or contact [email protected] See you in the garden!
