Dear Families,

Thank you to Dr. Putney for presenting on the topic of Navigating Adolescence last night at the PTO meeting.  The presentation and resources will be linked to our PTO website. Dr. Putney recommends visiting greatconversations.com for dates on upcoming local discussions.

All PTO Executive Board position are open for next year. President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Volunteer Coordinator, and Parent Advisory Committee.  If you are interested, please email any of the current board members. Voting will occur on May 2 at 6:30 pm in library. You must be present at the meeting to vote.

Gabriel’s Art Kids
New to Silver Beach this year! This class is a little bit of everything to allow each child to be exposed to different mediums.  From 2-D and 3-D projects, we will use paint, markers, oil pastels, clay,
collage and other materials to explore and find different ways to create. Each class will be a different exploration! Taught by Jennifer Lindstrom. Classes start next week! An old favorite: Explore the imaginative world of Improv in this EduArts class! Students will learn improvisation basics, play games with friends, and create their own unique worlds and situations. The sky’s the limit! Improv is a great way for kids to build confidence and trust in others in a safe and supportive environment. These classes will often culminate in a Whose Line Is It Anyway? style showing that is open to friends and family. Classes start this week! Natural Dyeing
Sign up for our new Fiber Arts after school program, Natural Dyeing! Plants were once our only source of color for cloth and paints! In this class, students will learn the process of preparing wool for dyeing and then experiment with colors from the natural world. Each child will complete this enrichment program with naturally dyed fibers. Classes start this week! This program is offered on Fridays from 3-4:30 for grades 3-5. Bricks and Beyond is offering a five-week Robotics 3.0 class Thursdays at Silver Beach Starting April 20th.  Working in teams, students will use LEGO Mindstroms software and LEGO components to plan, test and modify their robots to complete specific task and will cover the basic foundation to complete future projects.   This class is open to 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students who understand the importance of teamwork and like challenges.  Class dates April 20, 27, May 4, 7, and 18. 1:15 to 2:45 in Annex C.  Classes fill quickly  Registration Deadline April 10, 2017.  Register at https://goo.gl/forms/c6t8OxyldXVSGOLJ2.  Email [email protected] with questions.

Healthy Food, Happy Kids Spring Fundraiser:
“Right now, there’s a fun way for you to show your support for growing healthy kids and enjoy some healthy food all at the same time. Common Threads is partnering with Acme Farms and Kitchen on a Healthy Food, Happy Kids Spring Fundraiser.
You can order some delicious food between now and May 1 (for pick up on May 5th) and savor not only the food, but also the knowledge that 50% of your purchase price goes directly to Common Threads to support Food Education programs.”

Dirt Fest:
“Common Threads is hosting Dirt Fest, our 3rd annual spring garden kick-off celebration, at Sunnyland Elementary this year on Monday, April 17th. Stop by anytime from 3-5:30 to try some healthy and tasty snacks, do some planting in the garden, visit educational booths, make some arts and crafts and listen to music outdoors. We hope to see you there!”
