December PTO Board meeting

This Tuesday we held our December PTO meeting.  Here’s the rundown:

  • Auction Committee Report (Andrea Balzotti, Chairperson)

So far, the auctions have paid for a new field which is holding up very nicely, a new swing, a sand play area, some much needed playground maintenance, and some stepping bollards called ‘pods’ which have been delayed a little.  There is still auction money left for additional playground improvements – under discussion are ideas for a better sand play area, curb painting, a large map mural on the ground, a buddy bench, a bright paint job for the under-cover area, and new balls, basketball nets, lacrosse gear and other play equipment.

The most important news is that our amazing auction committee tells us that the party is on again for next year!   Next year’s auction will focus on the other side of school – the sliding mud hill that vaguely looks like grass.  We’ll begin discussions with the school and district to plan a tiered stadium step/seating area which will allow more traffic to pass up and down the hill without becoming a mud slide.  Andrea and her team are on board, and will begin auction planning in January.

  • Enrichment (Sarah Elmer, Chairperson)

The winter After School Program schedule is coming together.  We’re hoping to offer two new options: Chess and 3D computer modeling.

  • Social Networking

The PTO has started its own Facebook page in an effort to offer another channel of communication with parents.  Check www.facebook.com/silverbeachpto

  • Kinder Boot-Camp:  The first Kinder Boot-camp planning meeting is being held on January 16th.
  • Dr. Baker visit: at our January 9th PTO meeting, Bellingham School District Superintendent Dr. Greg Baker will attend to discuss the upcoming school bond.
  • Next Meeting is in the Library on 9 January, 2018
Board meeting is at 5:30, Dr. Baker will speak at 6:30
