Silver Beach Elementary school’s  Family Support Network

Families helping families

… A note from our Family Support Network Coordinator, Heather Shepherd:

First, let me say thank you!  Because of your generosity, I understand we were able to provide meals to approx. 40 this Thanksgiving, and they were all unbelievably grateful.  Also, a huge thanks to Mr. Gilmore, and Kaari Haaland at Haggen, who coordinated the entire thing in my absence.

Next, thank you for your patience and excitement this year… We are ready for your help to support some Silver Beach families!  I will be coordinating again this year with Mr. Gilmore and Laura Lawyer.  So far there are 9 families who have returned information (Additional families will be updated as soon as possible)… If we get any additional families in, I will add them to the spreadsheet.  Additionally, if we have the ability to help beyond just our school, I may be updating with some families identified by our district homeless coordinator who are in need.

Below is the link to a google spreadsheet with all of the requests I’ve received to date.  They are separated into sheets per family… There are “tabs” at the bottom of the document that allow you to move between families and see each family’s request.  Please type in your name to the right of any items that you are willing to contribute.

If you are willing, the items can be wrapped also.  Some families have indicated they want items unwrapped, and you’ll see that highlighted on the sheet.  Please label with the Family Number, Child (if applicable) and from FSN, to ensure it goes to the correct family.  The items can be left at the office.  Please try to have items at the Office by December 11th, to allow time for delivery and pick up from the families.

If you are having trouble viewing the google document… let me know and I will sign you up for whatever items you would like.  For those of you unfamiliar with google spreadsheets, if there is a name to the right of the item, it is taken.  If the box is grey, it was not requested.  Thank you so much again for helping… for the past three years the families were overwhelmed when they saw the support they received, and this year we have several new families who have never received support from the FSN holiday drive.

If you would prefer to send in a check for any amount, instead of fulfill an item on the list, we use the funds to fill remaining items and/or provide holiday meals to families.  Please make any check out to SBEA, with FSN in the memo line.

If you cannot access the google spreadsheet, or if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.  If you have friends, neighbors or family in the area who you think would want to contribute, please don’t hesitate to forward the link to them.  If items need arranging for pickup, please let me know.  Thank you for your generosity!   (Lastly, if you don’t see a need you want to fill right away, don’t worry, more will be added here soon!)

About the Silver Beach Family Support Network

The Family Support Network (FSN) began in 2015 as a way to help Silver Beach Families in need.  Since then, hundreds of Silver Beach families have provided food, clothing, bedding, cleaning supplies, book, toys, holiday gifts and meals, scholarships for after-school enrichment programs, childcare assistance, and so much more to families in our school community facing challenges.

Our goal is to continue to expand our assistance to families in need. Through the generous contributions of Silver Beach Families and Staff, FSN can provide Crisis Response, Holiday Support and everyday assistance for ongoing needs.

How it works:

Families may request support or may be referred by staff as specific needs arise.  Brian Gilmore, our school counselor, Tracks the requests and delivers donations to the recipients, maintaining anonymity for the family.  Past contributions have included children’s coats, shoes, grocery and laundry supplies, bedding and more.  All family information is kept confidential.

As a supporter, you can help whenever and with whatever requests work for you.  If you are interested in joining the network, please call or email the FSN coordinator or the school counselor to be added to the email list.  You’ll receive notifications when there are new items added to our list of needs.

If you are a family in need, please contact Brian Gilmore at 676-6443 (x2328) or [email protected].

Most of all, THANK YOU for continuing to be an amazing, supportive community for all of our families.
